The Department cooperates with the European Commission and the Council of the European Union within the scope of shaping a customs policy. It coordinates activities related to legislative work and implementation of union and domestic customs law. It supervises customs authorities within the scope of uniformity in application of legal provisions regarding trade in goods and undertakes activities aimed at facilitating trade in goods  and protecting the EU internal market.
